Xi'an is served by the Xianyang Airport, which is located around 45 kilometers from the city, about one hour's drive. As the fourth largest airport in China, there are several flights to and from Xi'an to the major tourist stops such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Urumuqi and other cities. There are also a few flights to Lhasa and international flights to Hong Kong, Macao and Japan.
　　
　　Xi'an Xianyang Airport is located in the outskirts of Xi'an City, Shanxi and was opened in 1991. The rapid growth in air traffic in north western China has led it to require further investment.
